print::making
Printmaking
is
an
art
form
of
the
visual
arts
group.
It
encompasses
four
different
techniques,
(1)
relief
printing
(as
the
oldest
form
of
printmaking),
(2)
intaglio
printing,
(3)
flat
(or
planographic)
printing
and
(4)
screen
printing.
Printmaking
is
actually
a
very
old
art,
whereby
the
printing
plates
are
prepared
in
often
very
complex
and
elaborate
processes.
From
these
plates,
prints
are
subsequently
being
pulled
onto
special
papers.
Each
and
every
print
is
a
handmade
original,
numbered
and
signed
by
the
artist.
Traditional
printmaking
has
nothing
in
common
with
printing
from
a
computer
printer:
these
are
actually
reproductions
(also
called
giclée)
and
are
produced
cheaply
from
inkjet
printers,
often
in
huge
editions
and unfortunately sold as “originals”.

intaglio::prints
intaglio prints are pulled from etched or engraved metal (copper, zinc, aluminum, steel) or plastic plates.

mokulito::prints
mokulito
is
a
flat
printing
technique.
the
process
is
similar
to
stone
lithography,
but
instead
of
a
stone
slab,
a
plywood
plate is used to draw upon and pull prints from it.

screen::prints
for
screen
prints,
a
very
finely
meshed
sieve
in
a
frame
(the
screen)
is
covered
with
photo-sensitive
emulsion,
which
is
light-exposed to the drawing (process similar to an analog film development).

Exposure
to
the
often
challenging
work
and
life
environments
has
sharpened
my
awareness
for
social
and
environmental
issues.
Art
can
play
a
pivotal
role
in
addressing
and
communicating
cross-faculty
and
socio-ecological
problems.
Any
form
of
discrimination,
global
warming,
access
to
clean
water,
plastic
waste,
endangered
wildlife:
just
some
of
the
many
concerns I try to incorporate into my artwork.
My
practice
as
printmaker
encompasses
all
four
printmaking
techniques,
relief,
intaglio,
litho
and
screen
printing.
Preferential
use
of
non-hazardous,
environmentally
friendly,
affordable
and
preferably
renewable
materials
is
dominating
my
artwork.
Some
of
the
techniques
I
have
extensively
studied
and
developed
further
with
a
view
to
make
it
more
accessible
to
fellow
artists.
Mokulito
(lithography
on
plywood)
and
electro
etching
(a
process
similar
to
galvanizing)
are
environmentally friendly, non-hazardous and cheaper alternatives to stone lithography and acid etching, respectively.
Portrayed
motives
are
mainly
related
to
wildlife
and
endangered
animals:
loss
of
habitat,
poaching,
pollution
and
climate
change
have
regrettably
pushed
many
creatures
around
the
globe
to
-or
already
over-
the
brink
of
extinction.
I
feel
an
urge
to
address
these
issues
through
my
work
to
hopefully
raise
the
awareness
that
not
only
our
but
also
the
coming
generations will be able to witness the beauty and richness of our flora and fauna.
During
early
phases
of
my
artistic
activity,
I
have
performed
autodidactic
artwork
-
impressions
gathered
from
many
different
countries
in
which
I
lived
and
worked.
The
formal
art
education
at
the
Vienna
Art
School
as
a
late
and
more
recent
experience
has
not
only
allowed
trying
out
all
forms
of
visual
arts,
but
has
in
particular
sparked
my
interest
for
more contemporary and novel art techniques such as installations in public spaces and digital media.
In
support
of
disadvanteged
people,
I
work
as
voluntary
art
therapist
with
coma
patients
(basal
stimulation),
rehabilitation
of alcohol and drug addicts („therapy for sentences“) and juveniles with MS, trisomy21 and other handicaps.
